East Nashville Christmas shopping and celebrating

Christmas in Nashville

You have but eight shopping days left until Christmas Day, beloved procrastinators. That said, if you stay in the neighborhood, that should be more than enough time to tick off all the names on even a pretty sizable gift list.

Since some of us here at The East Nashvillian might be among the procrastinator army (the many, the proud), we thought it might be helpful to share a round-up of the holiday sales, specials and related bonuses East Nashville’s independent businesses have going right now.

To top it off, we’ve also included a handful of holiday celebrations, so you can reward yourself for completing your shopping and/or your wrapping.

EAST NASHVILLE HOLIDAY SHOPPING DEALS AND SPECIALS

Welcome Home gift cards

Lots of East Nashville shops have extended holiday hours/are open daily through Christmas Eve (including home goods/gift shop Abode, pet foods stop Baxter Bailey & Company, Artisan East and Art and Invention, among others), plus many have new gift cards to share (say, home decor/gift stop Welcome Home, music/vintage shop Fond Object). Others have specific deals and specials you might wanna mark down. Here are a few we dug up:

PONY SHOW POP-UP
Pippin Chapman at Pony Show is hosting a pop-up sale with Organic Punk Boutique on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a broadly expanded collection of jewelry and candles made here in the neighborhood. Hours are Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 to 6, Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

LAST-MINUTE MARKET AT THE EAST ROOM
Hail, Dark Aesthetics — now located at The East Room on Gallatin — is sponsoring a Last Minute Market on Saturday with a big crop of local vendors sharing wares, including Studio 16 artists’ collective, a mix of vintage and new clothing and accessories sellers, handmade cards and paper goods company Little Press on the Prairie and lots more. Drop by the Facebook event page for a full (and growing) list of offerings. Sale runs noon to 5 p.m. at 2412 Gallatin.

CHRISTMAS EVE PAJAMA SALE AT ART AND INVENTION
This one's for the real-deal procrastionators: Art and Invention Gallery's annual pajama sale is set once again for Christmas Eve. The basic gist: "If you wear your pajamas into the gallery, you get discounts and then can head right home to jump in bed to wait for Santa to arrive." A&I's Meg MacFadyen says the sale is consistently hilarious, and always well-populated by neighbors in entertaining PJs. The gallery is open Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "or until the last desperate shopper leaves the building."

FILL THE BAG SALE AT 2616
Women’s resale boutique 2616 has a big sale going that those with clothes horses on their list will appreciate. (Those who’d like to gift themselves ahead of Christmas, probably you too.) Their Fill the Bag Sale works like it sounds — you purchase flat-rate medium or large bags from 2616, then stuff that bag up with everything that’ll fit, from clothes to accessories. Medium bags run $25, large bags $40. Sale goes December 18-20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More at 2616’s Facebook page.

Now through Saturday, you can stop by Logue’s Black Raven Emporium (2915 Gallatin) and snag books, men’s clothing and select vintage items for a big ol’ 50 percent off.

ARTISAN EAST POP-UP COFFEE SHOP
Brandy Davenport at Artisan East is setting up an extra pleasant/pleasingly caffeinated shopping experience this week, with a pop-up coffee shop (serving Ugly Mugs coffee) Thursday and Friday morning. Artisan East is opening early at 8 a.m. both days and sharing that morning coffee while you peruse the mix of handmade/small-batch/otherwise artisan-created offerings, from art to home goods. More at the Facebook event page.

KAREN ELSON VINTAGE SALE AT ANY OLD IRON
You know musician/supermodel Karen Elson? EAST NASHVILLE HOLIDAY PARTIES AND EVENTS

Dark Arts Masquerade Ball

Wanna celebrate pre- or post-shopping? A few options we found:

CRAFTING AND SANTA AT RED ARROW
Riverside Village art gallery Red Arrow (1311 McGavock) hosts a party Saturday alongside Turnip Green Creative Reuse that’ll include hot cider, crafts-making and a visit from the jolly man in red himself. The gallery doors open at 11 a.m., crafts start up at 1 p.m., and Santa’s in the house for photos from 2:30 to 4 p.m. (A suggested donation for your Santa photos will go toward a local non-profit.)

A BUMMED OUT CHRISTMAS AT LOGUE’S
At this not-so-traditional Christmas party Friday, Dec. 19 at Logue’s Black Raven Emporium (2915 Gallatin), expect “burlesque, music, and magic… treats, trees, and libations… anything your twisted little heart could ask for.” Tickets are $10, and the show starts at 9 p.m. More at the Bummed Out Christmas Facebook event page.

CHRISTMAS AT THE FAMILY WASH
If you’re spending any time in business establishments, you’ve likely found it easy to experience a blue Christmas, or a white Christmas, or a funky-funky Christmas. Thursday, switch it up a little with A Pirate’s Christmas, via Nashville’s own Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers. Mason and Co. are joined by Supe and the Sandwiches at Christmas at The Family Wash, which kicks off December 18 at 7 p.m. Cover’s $5, and the pie is shepherds, and shepherds are very Christmassy.

Side note re: the Wash — this year’s run of A Charlie Brown Christmas shows with The Ornaments has already begun, and while reservations are all taken up, that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t get in. There’s standing room, and sometimes folks don’t show up for their reservation. Remaining showings include tonight (Dec. 17), Friday and Saturday at 6:30 and 8:30. Cover is $10.

DARK ARTS HOLIDAY MASQUERADE BALL
Not your average holiday party, even a little bit. The Dark Arts Masquerade Ball at Riverwood Mansion on December 18, wrangled by Unbound Arts and Hail, Dark Aesthetics, gives you a chance to slough off the tinsel and indulge in something “whimsically dark.” There’ll be art, live music, dancing and photo ops with Santa Clause… or, actually Satan Claws. Different guy. Elegant dress is requested for the 7 to 10 p.m. celebration, and tickets run $35. More at the Riverwood Mansion website

MICHAEL JACKSON VS. PRINCE AT 308
OK, so this isn’t remotely Christmas related. But spending Christmas Eve Eve pre-gaming for family togetherness while being regaled exclusively with the sounds of the Prince of Pop and the Prince of … Prince: not an unfestive idea. Coach and Rate DJ at the December 23 party, starting up at 9 p.m., no cover. (308 is at 407 Gallatin.)

CHRISTMAS CAROL PARTY FROM EAST NASHVILLE UNDERGROUND
This party isn’t in East Nashville, but it’s wrangled in part by our friends at East Nashville Underground and features lots of East Nashville musicians. For the Third Annual Christmas Carol Show (at the Stone Fox, 712 51st Ave. N.), a huge crop of music-makers will take on Christmas chestnuts. On the lineup: Luella with Tim Carroll, *repeat repeat, Photo Ops and many others. Show starts at 7 p.m., and it’s free. More info at the Facebook event page.

Anything to add? Love to hear about some more.
